The New York Mets made their first National League Championship Series appearance since losing the World Series in 2015.

After finishing with a record of 89-73 and coming in second place in the National League East, the Mets defeated the Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies as underdogs in the postseason before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Mets came into the offseason after contending for a World Series berth and signed the top free agent Juan Soto from the New York Yankees.

While the Mets have made plenty of moves already this offseason, MLB Analyst Robert Flores reported that the Mets are pursuing another star player from the San Diego Padres.

“The New York Mets, according to our Jon Heyman, have reportedly begun discussions with the Padres about a potential deal that would send Dylan Cease to Queens.” Flores said via MLB Network on ‘X.’

Cease is one of the newest players being involved in trade rumors, and the Mets reportedly are pursuing him for the 2025 season.

Although the Mets have spent a ton of money this offseason already, adding Cease would give the team yet another boost as they try to win their first World Series title since 1986.

Cease came into the league in 2019 with the Chicago White Sox where he played five seasons before going to the Padres in 2024.

In 2024, Cease started 33 games where he held a record of 14-11 with a 3.47 ERA and 224 strikeouts in 189.1 innings pitched.

The Mets will be a team to keep an eye on for Cease if the Padres do end up trading him before the start of the season.
