The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in the World Series to end the 2024 MLB season.
Now that the games have all been played, the attention has turned to the free agent class of this offseason.
With plenty of talent available, Corbin Burnes stands out among the top starting pitchers.
One MLB insider recently explained why Burnes is the top starter on the market.
“Corbin Burnes’ cutter is truly a unicorn pitch,” Ryan Spilborghs said, via MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM.

Burnes is coming off his first season with the Orioles after playing for the Milwaukee Brewers since entering the league in 2018.
He had a solid year for Baltimore, starting 32 games and going 15-9 with a 2.92 ERA and 181 strikeouts in 194.1 innings.
The Orioles added Burnes last offseason in an attempt to get past the first round of the playoffs after getting swept by the Texas Rangers in the 2023 ALDS.
Even though Burnes was dominant in his first postseason start against the Kansas City Royals, the Orioles could not get the bats going and ended up losing 1-0 on the way to being swept again.
Burnes pitched eight innings, allowing five hits and one run while walking one and striking out three.
That performance showed other teams that Burnes has the stuff to be the ace of a pitching staff in the postseason.
Now, taking his unicorn cutter into free agency, it is likely that many teams will be interested.
