The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees to win their eighth World Series title in franchise history.
After the Dodgers suffered injuries to multiple starting pitchers during the regular season, they needed someone to step up.
Walker Buehler was that guy, as he appeared in two games during the World Series and did not allow a run while closing out the series out of the bullpen in Game 5.
Now that the season is over, Buehler will test the free-agent waters, and he is already drawing some interest from at least one NL rival.
“The [Atlanta] Braves are among the teams showing early interest in Walker Buehler, per Jon Morosi,” B/R Walk-Off wrote on X.
Buehler made his MLB debut with the Dodgers in 2017 and has played all seven seasons of his major league career with the organization.
In 2024, Buehler started 16 games and was 1-6 with a 5.38 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 75.1 innings pitched.
Buehler overcame that disappointing regular season by pitching six scoreless innings in the World Series, allowing just two hits and striking out seven, including Alex Verdugo for the final out of the season.
The Braves also dealt with the injury bug in the 2024 season but were still able to make the playoffs.
Buehler likely increased his stock with his postseason performance, and the Braves could use the 30-year-old starting pitcher.
The Braves lost in the 2024 wild-card round but have made the playoffs each of the past seven seasons and won the World Series in 2021.
It will be interesting to see if they are able to sign Buehler after his dominant performance in the World Series.
