The Detroit Tigers are on their way up and have had a surprisingly solid season that currently has them just 2.5 games out of a wild-card spot in the American League.

Their hot streak was that close to resulting in a no-hitter on Friday night, but the Tigers, unfortunately, lost it in shocking fashion that left them just one out shy of the franchise’s first no-no since last July.

With two outs in the 9th inning and a 1-0 lead against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night, Gunnar Henderson hit a triple down the right field line off of Tyler Holton for the team’s first hit of the night, but Holton was able to escape and strike out Anthony Santander to strand Henderson on third and complete the one-hitter.

Brant Hurter did the bulk of the damage for the Tigers by going 5.2 innings and giving up just one walk with eight strikeouts after coming in in the second inning after Beau Brieske recorded the first four outs as the opener.

Holton recorded his eighth save of the year and continued his recent stretch of dominance, which has seen him surrender just two earned runs since June.

The Tigers are roaring and have won five of the past six games while giving up no more than four runs in any of them.

They are in a tough portion of their schedule and have five more games against the Orioles coming up with a pivotal 3-game series at the Kansas City Royals sandwiched in between.
