Since winning the World Series in 2016, the Chicago Cubs have made three playoff appearances, but two have resulted in being swept in the wild-card round.

The Cubs missed the postseason for a fourth straight year in 2024 after finishing with a record of 83-79 and second in the National League Central.

Coming off a few down years in a row, the Cubs went into the offseason with an aggressive touch as they have added multiple players.

The big acquisition included trading for outfielder Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros.

MLB analyst Jon Morosi recently reported the Cubs are having trade talks with the San Diego Padres about another star player.

“The Cubs have spoken with the Padres about a Dylan Cease trade, per Jon Morosi,” B/R Walk-Off wrote on X.

Cease has been involved in trade rumors as of late, and the Cubs are the newest team to reportedly be involved in trying to acquire the starting pitcher.

The right-hander played five seasons for the White Sox before going to the Padres in 2024.

Last season, Cease started 33 games and was 14-11 with a 3.47 ERA and 224 strikeouts in 189.1 innings pitched.

Cease tied his career highs in games started and wins and was three strikeouts short of his top mark.

The Cubs could be a team to watch in 2025 if they can pull off a deal to acquire Cease.
