The Toronto Blue Jays have had a rough stretch of baseball over the last few seasons as even when they made the postseason, the result was less than desirable.

Although the Blue Jays made the postseason three out of the last five seasons, all three playoff trips ended with them being swept in the wild-card series.

After missing the postseason in 2024, the Blue Jays went into the offseason looking to improve their lineup and add some big-name free agents.

The Blue Jays were pursuing three big-name players who ended up signing with different teams including Juan Soto, Corbin Burnes, and Roki Sasaki.

Three Blue Jays players were in attendance for the team’s meeting with Sasaki.

According to MLB Analyst Ben Nicholson-Smith via Foul Territory on ‘X,’ Bo Bichette, Daulton Varsho, and Chad Green were in attendance for the Sasaki meeting.

When looking at the players who attended the Sasaki meeting, one name that is noticeably not there is Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

While Bichette, Varsho, and Green are all good players, Guerrero Jr. is the face of the Blue Jays and was not in attendance for the meeting.

Sasaki eventually signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but the Blue Jays appeared to give their best efforts to bring him to Toronto.

The 23-year-old starting pitcher comes to the Dodgers from Japan this offseason.

In 2024 with his overseas team, Sasaki appeared in 18 games where he held a record of 10-5 with a 2.35 ERA and 129 strikeouts in 111.0 innings pitched.

The Blue Jays will continue their search to add talent this offseason, but not getting Sasaki after putting in that much effort has to hurt.
