The Toronto Blue Jays’ offseason has left a lot to be desired as the team has not acquired any big-name players thus far.
Some of the moves the Blue Jays have made include acquiring pitcher Jeff Hoffman, pitcher Yimi Garcia, pitcher Nick Sandlin, pitcher Josh Walker, second baseman Andres Gimenez and outfielder Myles Straw.
With none of these players likely to make a big impact in 2025, the Blue Jays need to make a splash move if they wish to truly compete for an American League East title.
The Blue Jays could have something in mind for that needed move, however, and a trade they made could help with that.
“The Blue Jays have acquired an additional $2 million in international bonus pool money that could be to sign starting pitcher free agent Roki Sasaki,” Foul Territory wrote on X.

The Blue Jays acquired Straw from the Cleveland Guardians along with the international bonus signing pool space.
Though the outfielder won a Gold Glove Award in 2022, the big takeaway from this trade is the extra money the Blue Jays got to possibly sign Sasaki.
The 23-year-old starting pitcher is coming over from Japan this offseason.
In 2024, Sasaki appeared in 18 games and was 10-5 with a 2.35 ERA and 129 strikeouts in 111.0 innings pitched.
The Blue Jays know they need to remain aggressive due to the strength of their division, and signing Sasaki could be a pivotal move if they want to be competitive in 2025.
