The Toronto Blue Jays missed the postseason for the first time in the last three years after finishing with a record of 74-88 and finishing last in the American League East.
After the disappointing 2024 season, most people would expect the Blue Jays to be aggressive this offseason.
Although the Blue Jays were in the mix on top free agent Juan Soto, they were unable to sign him and have only made a few signings thus far.
While the Blue Jays are likely focusing on extending their star player Vladimir Guerrero Jr, MLB Analyst Ken Rosenthal revealed they are showing interest in free agent first baseman Pete Alonso.
“The Blue Jays are in the mix for Alonso,” Rosenthal said via Foul Territory on ‘X.’

Many MLB fans and MLB analysts thought that Alonso would eventually end up signing with the Mets and stay with the team in 2025.
Rosenthal’s report suggests that the Blue Jays, Mets, and one other unnamed team are in the mix for Alonso.
Another point Rosenthal points out is that the Mets are in talks with other players as well, and if they sign one of them before Alonso, they will forget about trying to bring Alonso back.
Alonso’s 2024 numbers include playing in all 162 games with a .240 batting average, 34 home runs, 88 RBIs, and a .788 OPS.
It was Alonso’s lowest home run total since the shortened 2020 season, but he is still a home run threat nonetheless.
If the Blue Jays want to compete for an AL East title, bringing in Alonso could greatly benefit their chances.
