The Chicago Cubs missed the postseason for the fourth straight season after finishing with a record of 83-79 and finishing in second place in the National League Central.
Since winning the World Series in 2016, the Cubs have only advanced past the wild-card series in the postseason once, and they haven’t appeared in the playoffs since 2020.
The Cubs could turn things around in 2025 as they have had a busy offseason and acquired some key pieces to their roster including trading for star outfielder Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros.
Although the Cubs lost Cody Bellinger to the Dodgers, MLB Analyst Keith Costas made a bold prediction for the Cubs in 2025.
“The Chicago Cubs will win a postseason game for the first time since 2017,” Costas said via MLB Network on ‘X.’

Costas mentions the Cubs winning their first postseason game since 2017 even though the Cubs made the postseason in both the 2018 and 2020 seasons.
The Cubs were swept in a single wild-card game in 2018 and swept 2-0 in a wild-card series in 2020.
Another note Costas noted was that the NL Central should be wide open in 2025, and he believes the Cubs could take the division title for the first time since 2020.
If the Cubs do make a run in 2025 for a division title and a playoff victory, it will likely be on the back of their new superstar outfielder Tucker.
In 2024 with the Astros, Tucker only played in 78 games, but he batted .289 with 23 home runs, 49 RBIs, and a .993 OPS.
The Cubs could be a sneaky contender in 2025 and will be a team to watch.
