The San Diego Padres made the postseason after finishing second in the National League West.
With the Los Angeles Dodgers residing in the same division, winning a title is difficult for the Padres.
Not only did the Dodgers hold them off in the division, but they also knocked the Padres out of the postseason in the National League Division Series.
The Padres have had a quiet offseason thus far, and it appears that the team is having some other problems that involve infighting among the family that owns the team.
MLB insider Ken Rosenthal provided insight into how that may be influencing the team’s offseason.
“How does that affect the perception of the team with people like Roki Sasaki, people who might be considering extensions with them,” Rosenthal said, via Foul Territory. “… How does this effect the team long term? Does it ultimately result in the team getting sold?”

Sasaki is a free agent pitcher coming over from Japan, and the Padres are thought of as one of the better fits for him.
Rosenthal mentions that the infighting may be a bad look to a player like Sasaki who is trying to decide where he wants to play.
Along with free agent signings, Rosenthal also mentions it could affect current Padres, such as Jackson Merrill, signing a contract extension.
Overall, the Padres need to figure out the problems in their organization, or nothing good will come of it.
