The New York Mets are trying to take over the city as its best Major League Baseball team.
After making an unlikely run to the 2024 National League Championship Series, the Mets entered the offseason and signed one of the New York Yankees’ best players, Juan Soto, as a free agent.
With the addition of Soto, the Mets’ offense will have an entirely new look, but they are still waiting on whether or not power-hitting first baseman Pete Alonso will return.
A former Mets general manager recently revealed the latest on the Alonso negotiations.
“Jim Duquette is reporting Pete Alonso’s agent has offered the Mets a three-year deal with opt-outs,” MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM wrote on X.

It had been reported earlier this offseason that Alonso was looking for a longer contract, but it seems he is now willing to accept a shorter deal.
Duquette mentions that the hope for Alonso is to get something done quickly with the Mets and then worry about a possible extension or free agency again later on.
Alonso is 30 years old and has played all six seasons of his MLB career with the team.
Mets fans love Alonso and likely want nothing more than to bring him back for the 2025 season to join Soto in a dynamic lineup.
Alonso had a bit of a down year in 2024, but he played in all 162 games and batted .240 with 34 home runs, 88 RBIs and a .788 OPS.
