The Toronto Blue Jays missed the postseason for the first time in three seasons after finishing last in the American League East with a record of 74-88.
Although the Blue Jays made the playoffs in 2022 and 2023, they were swept in the wild-card series in both of those appearances.
With the AL East just getting better and better, the Blue Jays were expected to be aggressive this offseason to keep pace.
However, they have not made any significant acquisitions thus far, and many believe they need to focus on extending star player Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
MLB insider Jim Duquette predicted what kind of contract Guerrero will get.
“It’s gonna be a 12-to-15-year deal if it gets done,” Duquette said, via MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM.
“It’s long-term or bust.”

As of now, Guerrero is set to become a free agent after the 2025 season, but the Blue Jays can try to extend him before that point.
Duquette believes Guerrero will get a contract similar in length to those of other notable free agents, such as Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto.
Guerrero had another great season in 2024, playing 159 games and batting .323 with 30 home runs, 103 RBIs and a .940 OPS.
The Blue Jays will need Guerrero if they want any chance at competing for a division title against the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles.
While there is still time left this offseason, the performance thus far by the Blue Jays has been underwhelming.
