The New York Mets made a surprising run to the 2024 National League Championship Series after being underdogs in their first two series.
After showing that they have the potential to reach the World Series in 2025, the Mets went all in and signed free agent Juan Soto this offseason.
Along with Soto, the Mets made other acquisitions, including pitchers Clay Holmes and Frankie Montas, and outfielder Jose Siri.
While the Mets and their fans wait for the Pete Alonso situation to play out, one MLB insider said the team could be interested in a different power hitter.
“What has been described as a stall in the Pete Alonso market could create an opening here for the Mets to get involved with Anthony Santander,” Jon Morosi said, via MLB Network.

Morosi said the Mets are interested in adding another bat, and if things don’t work out with Alonso, they could pivot to Santander.
The outfielder also reportedly is drawing interest from the Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Angels and Detroit Tigers.
Morosi also mentions that the Mets likely won’t pursue Santander until Alonso signs elsewhere.
In 2024 with the Baltimore Orioles, Santander played 155 games and batted .235 with 44 home runs, 102 RBIs and a .814 OPS.
The Mets will be a team to keep an eye on to make another big move before the 2025 season.
