The Detroit Tigers broke their playoff drought with an AL wild-card spot in 2024.

Not only did the Tigers make the postseason, but they knocked off the recent American League juggernaut Houston Astros in the wild-card round.

The Tigers appear to have found something with their young roster, and they acquired starting pitcher Alex Cobb and infielder Gleyber Torres this offseason to improve their team for 2025.

While the Tigers have already made a couple of significant moves, they also reportedly have their eye on free agent Alex Bregman.

Former MLB general manager Steve Phillips revealed why the Tigers are the perfect fit for the third baseman.

“If you believe that you’re now ready to make a move to sign a guy like this, then sign him,” Phillips said, via MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM.

Phillips said he believes the Tigers need a leader in the clubhouse to rally the young players together and take the next step as a winning team.

The Tigers have plenty of talent, but with one of the youngest rosters in MLB in 2024, the team needs a leader to show them the way.

Bregman could be that guy for the Tigers as he has played for the Astros since 2016 and won two World Series titles in that span.

In 2024, Bregman played 145 games and batted .260 with 26 home runs, 75 RBIs and a .768 OPS.

While those numbers would be a plus for the Tigers, Bregman’s leadership could be even more significant.
