The New York Yankees have had a roller coaster offseason thus far that has been filled with disappointment and excitement.
After losing out on their star outfielder and this year’s top free agent Juan Soto when he signed with the New York Mets, the Yankees felt the heartbreak.
Although they were unable to bring Soto back, the Yankees turned things around by signing some key pieces to their roster for the 2025 season.
Those signings did not include their second baseman Gleyber Torres however as he ended up signing with the Detroit Tigers.
According to MLB Insider Bryan Hoch via B/R Walk-Off on ‘X,’ Torres said he never received an offer from the Yankees in free agency.

After missing out on Soto, the Yankees signed free agent starting pitcher Max Fried from the Atlanta Braves, along with trading for relief pitcher Devin Williams from the Milwaukee Brewers and outfielder Cody Bellinger from the Chicago Cubs.
The Yankees reportedly never even offered Torres a deal this offseason, which is surprising since Torres has played for the team since coming into the league in 2018.
In 2024, Torres played 154 games for the Yankees where he batted .257 with 15 home runs, 63 RBIs, and a .709 OPS.
The Yankees had no interest in bringing Torres back, and is interesting to wonder what the reason could be for that.
While Torres received a good deal with the Tigers, he could be a little hurt by the Yankees for not even offering him a deal.
The Yankees will look to get back to the World Series in 2025, but they will have to do so without their leadoff hitter from 2024.
