This Major League Baseball offseason has been full of excitement and surprises involving big-time trades and big-time free-agent signings.

One of the biggest signings of the offseason came by the New York Mets who signed the top free agent Juan Soto to a 15-year deal worth $765 million.

The Mets have made plenty of moves this offseason including signing Soto, relief pitcher Clay Holmes, and outfielder Jose Siri.

While the Mets have made a couple of big-time signings, the team reportedly offered another player before he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

According to MLB beat writer Tim Healey via B/R Walk-Off on ‘X,’ the Mets offered Teoscar Hernandez a two-year contract before he resigned with the Dodgers.

Hernandez ended up signing a three-year contract extension with the Dodgers worth $66 million, but the Mets made the star outfielder an offer before that.

The Mets appear to be all in on winning a World Series in 2025, and the addition of Hernandez would have given their offense another boost.

Hernandez came into the league in 2016 with the Houston Astros and he has played for four MLB teams in his nine-year career.

In 2024 with the Dodgers, Hernandez played 154 games where he batted .272 with 33 home runs, 99 RBIs, and an .840 OPS.

The Mets will be a team to keep an eye on as the offseason progresses as it appears they are willing to spend even more money to beef up their roster before the 2025 season.

First baseman Pete Alonso is still yet to sign with a team this offseason, and the Mets are one of the teams involved.
