The New York Mets have been in the spotlight for most of the Major League Baseball offseason thus far after their big free agent signing.
After making a postseason run to the National League Championship Series, the Mets made even more noise this offseason by signing the top free agent Juan Soto from the New York Yankees.
With all of the excitement for the future of this Mets organization, they made a big announcement regarding one of their former players.
According to New York Mets on ‘X,’ former Mets player David Wright will have his number five retired and be inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame on Saturday, July 19th.

Wright was a third baseman for the Mets and came into the league in 2004 with the team.
His 14-season MLB career was all with the Mets, and they will honor him by retiring his jersey number and inducting him into the Mets Hall of Fame next season.
The seven-time all-star third baseman had a great career with the Mets as his career stats include a .296 batting average with 242 home runs, 970 RBIs, and a .867 OPS.
Wright also won two Gold Glove awards and two Silver Slugger awards throughout his career.
Although Wright played 14 seasons for the team, he only appeared in two postseasons, but he was able to appear in the World Series when the Mets went in 2015.
The Mets will celebrate Wright in July, and they hope to be sitting in a good spot in the standings at that time.
