The New York Mets entered the offseason after a postseason run to the National League Championship Series.
After almost reaching the World Series, the Mets took the offseason by storm by signing free agent Juan Soto away from the New York Yankees.
Along with Soto, the Mets have added pitchers Clay Holmes and Frankie Montas, and outfielder Jose Siri.
One player who the Mets have yet to bring back is Pete Alonso, and MLB insider Ken Rosenthal recently revealed why the first baseman hasn’t signed with any team yet.
“The issue seems to be with the Mets, and perhaps other teams as well, is that Alonso is entering his 30s,” Rosenthal said, via Foul Territory.

Rosenthal appears to believe that Alonso wants a long-term contract, and because he recently turned 30, teams are unwilling to commit to that kind of deal.
Alonso has played all six seasons of his career for New York, and Rosenthal said he believes that he will most likely come back to the Mets in 2025.
However, the insider also wouldn’t be surprised if a dark horse team swooped in to sign him.
In 2024, Alonso played in all 162 games and batted .240 with 34 home runs, 88 RBIs and a .788 OPS.
The Mets will be trying to win their third World Series title, and Alonso’s raw power has proven to be an asset in the postseason.
