The New York Mets had one of the more impressive postseasons in 2024 as they won two series as underdogs to advance to the National League Championship Series.

Although the Mets eventually lost to the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers, they showed that they have the ability to win in October.

The Mets’ roster will improve even more in 2025 as the team signed the top free agent Juan Soto to a 15-year deal worth $765 million.

Mets’ owner, Steve Cohen, sent a clear message about his goal for the organization after the Soto signing.

“My goal is that the Mets are going to be a premier, one of the elite teams in Major League Baseball,” Cohen said via Bob Nightengale on ‘X.’

Cohen appears to want to build baseball’s newest super team in the MLB, and signing Soto is a good start to that goal.

In 2024 with the New York Yankees, Soto played in 157 games where he batted .288 with 41 home runs, 109 RBIs, and a .989 OPS.

Soto led the Yankees’ offense in the postseason as well and helped them to appear in the World Series.

Cohen is a known billionaire and the Soto signing shows that he is willing to spend the money on elite talent to build the elite team that he speaks of.

The Soto deal is now the biggest contract in MLB history, passing the $700 million deal signed by Shohei Ohtani with the Dodgers last season.

Soto and the Mets will look for their first World Series appearance since 2015 and their first World Series title since 1986.
