The Boston Red Sox finished the 2024 season with a record of 81-81, which landed them in third place in the American League East.
After missing the postseason for a third straight season, the Red Sox could be one of the more aggressive teams this offseason as they try to keep up with the New York Yankees.
The Red Sox are eying the top free agent in this year’s class in Juan Soto, which would give them a huge edge over the Yankees as Soto was one of New York’s best players in 2024.
While everybody awaits Soto’s decision, the Red Sox made another move in the meantime.
“Red Sox, LHP Aroldis Chapman agree to 1-year deal, per multiple reports including MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand,” MLB wrote on X.

Chapman is 36 years old and has played 15 MLB seasons with six organizations.
After debuting in 2010 with the Cincinnati Reds and playing six years for them, Chapman went to the Yankees for seven years and then jumped around from team to team for the past two years.
In 2024, Chapman appeared in 68 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates and was 5-5 with 14 saves, a 3.79 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 61.2 innings pitched.
Although Chapman is getting up there in age, his 2024 stats prove he still has what it takes to be effective.
The Red Sox are getting a nice veteran addition to their bullpen for 2025, and now they will continue to try to sell Soto on joining the team.
