MLB’s offseason is always a good time because it lasts much longer than the NBA or NFL’s, where most big free agents sign within hours of free agency kicking off.
In contrast, baseball’s offseason is a marathon like its regular season.
It’s the time of the year when nothing is off limits, and many surprising players see their names come up in trade rumors.
One team is reportedly “listening” to offers for all their star players.
NY Post’s Jon Heyman appeared on “Bleacher Report Walk-Off” this week and noted that the San Diego Padres are listening to offers on just about all of their star players, noting, “They are listening on (Dylan) Cease, (Luis) Arraez, (Xander) Bogaerts…they are listening, are they likely to trade any of them? I’m not sure. There’s a lot of stuff going on here, and the values of these players are going up.”

He noted that Bogaerts’ contract would make him tough to move, but teams would be all over the opportunity to trade for Cease or Arraez, who are both scheduled to hit free agency after the 2025 season.
Hearing that the Padres are considering being sellers has to be disappointing after another promising year that saw them give the eventual Los Angeles Dodgers a tough challenge in the NLDS.
Heyman also noted that the Padres are still in on Japanese free agent phenom Roki Sasaki, which would make a potential Cease trade easier to stomach.
Still, most fans would certainly prefer to see the team extend Cease and Arraez instead of shipping them out after each has been with the team for just one season.
