The New York Mets entered the offseason coming off a postseason run that saw them eventually lose to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series.
Now that the Mets know they can win games in October, they can taste a World Series title in 2025.
To show how much owner Steve Cohen wants a title, he went out and signed top free agent Juan Soto to a 15-year deal worth $765 million.
Soto stayed in the city but went from the New York Yankees to the Mets.
Asked if New York is a Mets town now, Soto made a clear statement of his thoughts.
“It’s been a Mets town for a long time. I think we just gotta bring it to the top. Championships are gonna tell you if it’s a Yankees or a Mets town at the end of the day,” Soto said, via FOX Sports: MLB.

After saying it has been a Mets town for a long time, but following up by saying that championships are the deciding factor, the statement could be questioned.
The Yankees have the most championships of any team in MLB with 27, while the Mets have two.
Soto is already a World Series champion with the Washington Nationals and appears to believe there will be more to come with the Mets.
The annual Subway Series will likely include a lot more drama than in years past after Soto’s decision.
