Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Shohei Ohtani had one of the most incredible seasons in baseball history in 2024 and will likely take home his third MVP award because of it.
He became the first player ever with 50 home runs and 50 steals in a season and capped off the year with his first World Series victory, but one other impressive home run stat just further proves how much of an outlier Shohei is amongst his peers.
MLB Network shared a stat detailing how many home runs over 450 feet each team hit in 2024.
Ohtani himself hit more than every team in the league except for the Colorado Rockies, aided by the thin Denver air.

The Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Yankees had seven, while the Pittsburgh Pirates had five.
Ohtani’s nine 450+ foot homers were the most by any player in a season since 2018, and it’s absurd to think that Ohtani did this during a year when he was actively recovering from Tommy John surgery.
He was so good as a hitter and baserunner in 2024 that it was easy to forget that he’s also a pitcher.
He should be ready to go on the mound for opening day in 2025.
Ohtani scared fans when he went down in the World Series with a shoulder injury, but he played through it before having surgery after winning the Fall Classic to repair what turned out to be a torn labrum.
Even though it was a relatively minor surgery on his off-arm, it’s still another surgery on his resume that hopefully won’t get in the way of returning to being a two-way superstar in 2025.
