The Baltimore Orioles had another productive regular season in 2024, finishing with a record of 91 wins and 71 losses.
Although the Orioles had a record of 20+ games above .500 for the second straight season, it was also their second straight season losing in their first round of the postseason.
The Orioles made some moves before the 2024 season in an attempt to make a run in the playoffs, including adding their ace starting pitcher, Corbin Burnes.
Burnes will now hit the free agent market before the 2025 season, and Major League Baseball Insider Kiley McDaniel projects how much money he could make.
McDaniel projects Burnes to land a contract worth $200 million plus in free agency.
Burnes was a long-time Milwaukee Brewer before joining the Orioles organization for the 2024 season.
His 2024 season included 32 starts with a record of 15 wins and nine losses with a 2.92 earned run average and 181 strikeouts in 194.1 innings pitched.
In the postseason, Burnes pitched one game against the Kansas City Royals where he threw eight innings allowing five hits, one earned run, and one walk while striking out three.
Burnes appeared to prove that he is still an ace-caliber starting pitcher both in the regular season and the postseason, which could fetch him a large contract this offseason.
Along with Burnes, some other big-name starting pitchers who will test free agency include Blake Snell, Jack Flaherty, and Max Fried.
It will be interesting to see if the Orioles remain aggressive and try to resign Burnes to a new contract ahead of the 2025 season.
