The New York Yankees fought the odds and postponed their elimination at least one more day by taking down the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-4 in Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday night to avoid a sweep and extend the series to Game 5 on Wednesday with ace Gerrit Cole toeing the rubber.

If you ask the Yankees, they aren’t thinking about elimination at all, which was further evidenced by closer Luke Weaver’s comments after the victory regarding his team’s chances to come back and win the series.

When asked if his Yankees could be the first team to overcome a 3-0 deficit to win the World Series after the game, Weaver said, “Well, I’m not one to predict the future. Stories have to be told, I know you guys do that for a living, so I’ll be willing to give you some material to write one.”

Weaver went 1.1 perfect innings in Game 4 with three strikeouts to hold onto a 2-run lead before his offense piled on five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to ice the game.

Weaver has been a revelation for the Yankees this season after Clay Holmes fumbled the closer job and at 31 years old, has completely turned his career around.

No team down 3-0 in the World Series has ever even forced a Game 6, so the Yankees have a chance to make history in Game 5 with their ace on the mound.

It’s still too early for the Yankees to get fans truly believing, but if Cole can dominate and send this series back to Los Angeles for a Game 6, things will start to get really interesting.
