Having a good farm system can give an MLB organization several paths toward improving their MLB team.
Quality prospects represent trade assets for said team to look for an upgrade before the deadline or in the offseason.
However, some of these prospects actually knock on the door to the majors and often represent big upgrades themselves.
This could be the case of Detroit Tigers right-hander Jackson Jobe.
The third overall pick of the 2021 MLB Draft, Jobe is turning heads in Tigers camp; and even if he has pitched just one inning heading into Wednesday, he oozes talent and potential and is benefitting from spending time with more experienced pitchers and coaches.
MLB insider Jon Morosi says that Jobe has the potential to help the Tigers at some point in the second half given his obvious talent.
What Morosi means is that before thinking about bringing in a mid or lower-tier starter around the deadline if they are in contention, the Tigers could consider just calling up Jobe if his numbers warrant it.
He breezed through the competition last year, with a 2.25 ERA in 16 Single-A frames, a 3.60 mark with a 3/54 BB/K ratio in 40 High-A innings, and six perfect innings in Double-A.
He has the repertoire, command, and poise to contribute in the majors this year after a few weeks in the upper-minors.
