Blue Jays Ace Takes Home Elite MLB Honor

The Toronto Blue Jays are part of the terrifying AL East division, where everyone wants to contend and has the tools and potential to do it.

As of Friday, they are fourth with a 15-17 record, but they have the means to get hot and climb some spots in a hurry.

One of the players with the potential to fuel a furious comeback in the standings is Jose Berrios.

In fact, it is because of Berrios that they have been competitive to this point, at least in large part.

For his efforts on the mound, Berrios was presented with the AL Pitcher of the Month award.

He is very much deserving of the honor.

He hasn’t struck out a whole lot of hitters compared to the number of inning pitched (31 punchouts in 43.2 frames), but run prevention has been impressive as he has a brilliant 1.44 ERA.

The right-hander has been hitting his spots consistently and it shows: he has conceded just seven earned runs in seven starts.

An average of one run allowed per game is not too shabby.

Given the fact that Berrios’ career-best ERA is 3.48, expecting him to maintain his sub-2.00s mark might be unrealistic.

However, he really seems in the best shape of his life, and could be poised for a career season in Toronto this year.

Ultimately, the goal is to help the Blue Jays qualify for the postseason and actually win a series once there.

It has proven difficult for Toronto in recent years, but they remain a dangerous team capable of big things.
