Padres Infielder Reportedly Faces Lifetime Ban For Betting

Sports gambling has become more and more widespread in our society with each passing day.

We now see ads for gambling sites and platforms everywhere we look.

It’s understandable for fans to want to engage in the activity.

However, professional athletes shouldn’t do it, especially in the sport they practice.

In the most recent betting scandal in MLB, San Diego Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano could receive a lifetime suspension for gambling.

MLB insider Jeff Passan explains the details.

San Diego Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano is facing a potential lifetime ban for betting on baseball, sources tell ESPN.

There isn’t much clarity at this point about the specifics behind the imminent suspension, but the fact there has been talk about a lifetime ban is an unequivocal sign Marcano bet on baseball.

The hope is that he didn’t do it in games in which his team was involved, particularly betting against his own club.

Details should emerge soon enough, but it’s yet another stain for baseball in a year in which Shohei Ohtani’s former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, is facing legal consequences for performing illegal gambling and theft.

If he is indeed suspended for the rest of his life, Marcano leaves a .217/.269/.320 career line and a .589 OPS in 149 games.

He hasn’t played in MLB in 2024, instead rehabbing from a knee injury.
