White Sox Had Embarrassing Blunder Against Tigers

It feels like every time things start going a little bit better for the Chicago White Sox, the team will do something to remind the world why they are the worst team in baseball and halt any bit of momentum that might have been building.

The end of last night’s game might have been the most depressing example of all.

With two outs in the top of the ninth inning down 2-1 against the Detroit Tigers and Paul DeJong on first base, Andrew Benintendi hit a routine fly ball to deep center field and DeJong took off running because he thought there were two outs, only to be easily doubled off first base as Matt Vierling casually threw the ball back to the infield.

The White Sox pull a White Sox. 😑

Doubled off…forgetting how many outs there are to end the game.

It was the most White Sox way to possibly lose a game, and the announcers were appalled, saying “and the White Sox have yet another play that typifies their season” before adding “how in the world does this happen?”

Chicago has now lost three in a row once again and has scored just seven runs in the last four games as the Sox continue to rank last in the league in nearly every major offensive category.

It’s a rough way to kick off a series, and the loss dropped the team to just 7-32 on the road this season.

Chicago will look to end this little losing streak on Saturday with Drew Thorpe making his second start opposing Tigers starter Kenta Maeda, who has an ERA of 6.02 in 12 starts and has surrendered 17 runs over 20.2 innings in his last six starts.
