The Chicago White Sox are a mess.

Facts and stats don’t lie: They have the worst record in MLB and it’s not even remotely close.

They are a rebuilding team without an elite farm system, even after the trade deadline, and precious few building blocks.

Many of their problems stem from above the players, manager and coaches. Ownership and front office, past and present, share some of the blame.

That has all put manager Pedro Grifol on the hot seat, with MLB insider Ken Rosenthal saying his time as skipper may be coming to an end very soon.

“Their manager, Pedro Grifol, he could be fired at any moment now,” Rosenthal said, via “Foul Territory.”

The White Sox did net some good prospects and young players before the trade deadline (most notably Miguel Vargas), but they should have done much better.

The Miami Marlins, for example, executed a perfect selling strategy and set themselves up with elite prospects.

That wasn’t the case with the White Sox, as they turned their three realistic trade chips (Erick Fedde, Michael Kopech and Tommy Pham) into three players who have little chance of becoming stars.

They also traded slugger Eloy Jimenez to the Baltimore Orioles for a low-level pitching prospect.

At least the White Sox held on to Luis Robert Jr. and Garrett Crochet, but the future looks bleak for Chicago.

Grifol, who was also in charge last year for a 61-101 campaign, will likely be the scapegoat.

Though he does have his limitations and shortcomings, as most managers do, he is not the main culprit for the White Sox’s disastrous season.
