Top Red Sox Prospect Shows Off Power During Futures Skills Showcase

One of the most exciting events of MLB’s All-Star break is the Futures game and all that comes along with it, as many fans get the opportunity to catch a first glimpse of the next generation of superstars.

One top Boston Red Sox prospect put on a show during yesterday’s inaugural Futures Skills Showcase and showed fans why he is regarded as one of the best prospects in all of baseball.

In the Skills Showcase that features three challenges – Hit It Here, Call Your Shot, and Swing for the Fences – Red Sox No. 2 prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 14 prospect Roman Anthony put on a show with six long home runs in the final round to take the win after entering the final challenge in sixth place.

Anthony just turned 20 years old and has been raking in Double-A Portland all season as the team’s leadoff hitter and center fielder, putting up a .790 OPS with ten home runs in 66 games.

It’s Anthony’s first full season in Double-A after spending most of last season in Single-A and High-A before being called up to Portland for ten games at the end of the season.

Red Sox fans have been hearing about Anthony for a couple of years since being drafted in the second round in 2022, and for many, this was a salivating first look at a guy who could be the team’s next superstar outfielder in a year or two.

Jarren Duran has blossomed into an All-Star in center for the Red Sox this season, but it never hurts to have more than one sweet-swinging speedy left-handed hitting center fielder on your roster.
