The Arizona Diamondbacks shocked the MLB world with their run to the World Series last year.

Entering the playoffs as a Wild Card team, no one thought the Diamondbacks could make a run.

But, that is exactly what they did through the NL.

The Diamondbacks beat the Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Philadelphia Phillies en route to the World Series.

But, they came up just short after losing to the Texas Rangers in five games.

Still, the future of the Diamondbacks looks strong with plenty of young talent on their roster.

Yet there are some concerns about the payroll for the 2024 season.

They still have to pay starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner a large sum of money.

According to Codify, the Diamondbacks owe Bumgarner $14 million this year.

That is a terrible contract for the Diamondbacks to be holding onto.

Bumgarner has not been an effective MLB pitcher since 2019.

Last season, he threw 16.2 innings for the Diamondbacks before being released.

His ERA across those innings was 10.26.

Having a contract like this on the books is not ideal.

But, the Diamondbacks can make it work by paying some of their young players cheap salaries.

For instance, All-Star outfielder Corbin Carroll has a base salary of $3 million next season.

While not ideal, the team should be in great shape given the way the roster is built.
