Blue Jays Place Key Player On 10-Day Injured List

The Toronto Blue Jays’ season has not gone as planned and they are limping towards the trade deadline with the increasing likelihood of being sellers as they find themselves firmly in last place in the AL East.

A recent roster move won’t make their comeback attempt any easier, as one of the team’s best players has just hit the injured list.

The Jays’ official X account announced that star shortstop Bo Bichette is being placed in the 10-day IL with a right calf strain after re-injuring it on Friday in his first game back from a four-game absence due to the same injury.

This is the third time Bichette has injured his right calf this season and the second time he has been placed on the injured list after missing nine games in early June for the same reason.

The injury has clearly impacted Bichette’s performance as he is having the worst season of his young career with just a .223 average and four home runs in 79 games played.

It’s starting to look like a lost season for not only Bichette, but the Blue Jays in general as the path out of the AL East’s basement is unclear.

Bichette played in 159 games in each of the 2021 and 2022 seasons while appearing in 135 last year, so this is the first time he has had to deal with a nagging injury like this.

He posted an OPS over .800 in each of his first five seasons in the league and is at a paltry .597 this year.
