The World Series is well underway between the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers as they battle it out to be crowned champions.
All the other 28 teams in the MLB can do is watch as they prepare for another shot in 2025.
The San Diego Padres were one of the teams that fell short of appearing in the World Series.
Padres star rookie outfielder Jackson Merrill revealed his thoughts on the World Series matchup.
“I wish that could be me. I wish I could be doing that. I wish that was the Padres on the field,” Merrill said.
“I wish that could be me. I wish I could be doing that.”
The Padres fell to the Dodgers in the National League Division Series in five games.
Any player who comes so close to making the World Series is likely to feel how Merrill feels, but he does give credit to the incredible matchup between the Yankees and the Dodgers.
In his first MLB season, Merrill was selected to represent the Padres in the all-star game after putting up exceptional numbers.
He batted .292 with 24 home runs, 90 runs batted in, and a .826 on-base plus slugging percentage on the season.
Merrill also performed well in his first postseason as he had six hits in 24 at-bats with one home run, one triple, one double, and five runs batted in.
The Padres will look to compete for their first National League West title since 2006 as they prepare for the 2025 season.
They will also be seeking their first World Series Championship in franchise history after falling short in 2024.
