There is not much reason for optimism in New York at the moment as the Yankees are down 2-0 to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series after dropping two games out west in devastating fashion.

Despite being down 2-0 ahead of Game 3, there is one stat that shows how history is actually on the Yankees’ side.

FOX Sports shared a graphic on X that showed how the last two times a team has gone up 2-0 in a Yankees Vs. Dodgers World Series, the team up 2-0 has gone on to lose the series.

The Yankees and Dodgers are meeting for the 12th time in the World Series, which ties the record for most championship matchups between two teams in any professional sport.

The Yankees lost the first two games of the 1978 World Series before winning the next four games, while the Dodgers lost the first two games of the 1981 World Series before winning the next four.

Granted, this was over 40 years ago, but Yankees fans will cling to any shred of positivity that they can muster ahead of Game 3.

Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton have built a laundry list of iconic postseason moments so far this month, but Aaron Judge hasn’t been able to join the party often enough and is a big reason why the team is in a hole.

Judge is hitting just .150 in the postseason and went 1-for-9 with six strikeouts in Games 1-2.

We’ll see if the Yankees can recreate history and win the next four games to keep this strange trend alive.
