The Detroit Tigers’ remarkable Cinderella season came to an end as they lost to the Cleveland Guardians in game 5 of the American League Division Series.
A team that at one point of the season had less than 1% chance to make the playoffs not only made the playoffs, but they won a series.
The Tigers swept the American League West champion Houston Astros 2-0 in the wild-card series to advance to their first American League Division Series since 2014.
Even though the Tigers’ season ended earlier than they would have liked, their Manager AJ Hinch gave his opinion on his team’s season.
“I’m thrilled with what we accomplished this season and how we represented Detroit and getting winning baseball back in that organization,” Hinch said.
Hinch was able to lead this Tigers squad to their first winning season since 2016 and their first playoff appearance since 2014.
With a record of 86 wins and 76 losses, the Tigers squeaked into the playoffs as the 3rd wild-card team in the American League.
Appearing to be huge underdogs against the Astros, the Tigers shocked the team that went to the last 7 American League Championship Series.
Hinch does admit that he is a little jealous to not be playing in New York on Tuesday, but he believes his team was all in this season.
The Tigers have a young and talented roster that has opened up some eyes in the baseball community this season.
It will be interesting to see if this team can follow up their great 2024 season with a similar season in 2025.
