White Sox Players Had An Embarrassing Error On Tuesday

The Chicago White Sox continue to dig deeper and deeper in an effort to uncover new levels of futility the sport of baseball has never seen and now sit with a ghastly 31-109 record amidst a 12-game losing streak that has them threatening to set the MLB record for most losses in a season.

Tuesday night’s 9-0 loss to the Baltimore Orioles featured an embarrassing error that encapsulated the kind of season it has been for the Southsiders.

With the bases loaded and the score 4-0 with two outs in the bottom of the second inning, former White Sox slugger Eloy Jimenez lifted a pop-up to shallow left field as third baseman Miguel Vargas, left fielder Andrew Benintendi, and shortstop Jacob Amaya all converged to make the catch, but Vargas took charge and didn’t concede to Benintendi and ran directly into him causing the ball to drop and all three baserunners to score.

Orioles announcer Kevin Brown summed it up perfectly by saying, “Oh my goodness. The White Sox have just gone full White Sox.”

Anyone who has played baseball knows that was Benintendi’s ball, and he was perfectly in position to make an easy catch, but Vargas overcommitted and undercommunicated before smashing into him.

Vargas soon left the game after sporting a black eye due to colliding with Benintendi’s shoulder.

Chicago is now 4-38 since the All-Star break and would need to go 12-10 the rest of the way to avoid tying the all-time record of 120 losses in a season held by the 1962 New York Mets.
