The Baltimore Orioles entered trade deadline day with a need for pitching help, particularly in the starting rotation.
They have been active in the trade market since the offseason, swinging a deal for ace Corbin Burnes and bringing in Zach Eflin a few days ago.
They also welcomed reliever Seranthony Dominguez and center fielder Cristian Pache for outfielder Austin Hays.
Now, they heave reached an agreement with the Miami Marlins to bring in another starter. But this time, Baltimore had to overpay to get their man.
“Full trade: Orioles get Trevor Rogers for OF Kyle Stowers and IF Connor Norby. Rogers comes with two additional years of club control,” MLB insider Ken Rosenthal tweeted.
Full trade: Orioles get Trevor Rogers for OF Kyle Stowers and IF Connor Norby. Rogers comes with two additional years of club control.
Rogers is more of an average pitcher at this point, with a 4.23 ERA in 391.1 career innings.
However, he does have upside, even though his performance this year hasn’t been that great, with a 4.53 ERA in 105.1 innings, with 46 walks and 85 strikeouts.
The O’s are specialists in developing pitchers, though, and they hope they can help Rogers unlock something that helps him regain his 2021 form. That year, he posted a 2.64 ERA.
To get him, however, they had to surrender two top 100 prospects in Stowers and Norby.
Both are among the best prospects at their positions, and both are MLB-ready pieces with a full service-time clock.
The Marlins did an excellent job here, getting two potential starters for Rogers’ two years of control.
Norby has 16 home runs and 13 stolen bases in the minors this year, and Stowers is up to 18 homers and 55 RBIs with the O’s Triple-A team.
Rogers should slot into the Orioles rotation and help replace injured starters Kyle Bradish, Tyler Wells and John Means.
