Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Jordan Montgomery is trying to leave behind a tough winter and spring.
After posting a 3.20 ERA with a top starter’s workload and having won the World Series with the Texas Rangers, he was expected to get a nice multi-year contract.
Experts foresaw something in the neighborhood of five years and $100+ million for him.
Yet, his agent Scott Boras misread the market and he had to settle for a one-year, $25 million pact with the D-Backs, with a vesting option for 2025.
Montgomery has since fired Boras and is now with Wasserman.
His spring training got off to a late start and he missed the first couple of weeks of the season getting himself ready.
He is finally ready to make his debut with Arizona, and it will come this week, according to MLB insider Bob Nightengale.
“Jordan Montgomery’s next start is scheduled to be with the Arizona Diamondbacks, likely April 19 vs the Giants in San Francisco,” he tweeted.

The southpaw had two tune-up starts with the D-Backs’ Triple-A affiliate.
The results were not good (a 10.57 ERA in 7.2 innings), but the main focus of pitcher and team was to get his pitch count incrementally up.
Now that he can pitch at least four or five innings, his next start will come in MLB.
Expect him to be a bit rusty in his first couple of starts, much like it’s currently happening with reigning NL Cy Young and fellow late-signee Blake Snell.
When he gets his arm in shape, however, Arizona will get a nice third wheel for their Zac Gallen-Merrill Kelly duet.
